Chris Maguire is available for selection this Friday as Sunderland take on Doncaster Rovers.
#FIREUPOURCITY: Sunderland v Doncaster Rovers tickets on sale now.
The midfielder, who suffered a fractured fibula in the Black Cats’ Sky Bet League One match against Gillingham in February, is available once again following a week’s training under his belt.
Maguire’s return comes as a boost to manager Jack Ross, who will be without Aiden McGeady, Reece James and Adam Matthews for their Good Friday clash with Rovers.
Speaking at his press conference today, the Scotsman shared his delight to have the 30-year-old at his disposal once again.
“Chris has had a full week of training so we’re hoping he will be back in the squad,” he said.
“He has been out for eight weeks now, but we hope to have him in and around the squad on Friday.
“He only just started training at the back end of last week so it’s not easy because he has been out for eight weeks.
“He knew his touch was a little bit off it when he first came back because he hasn’t done anything.
“Having this full week of training is good for him and now he is getting closer.”
He continued: “Lee has had a full week of training too so that is him back to full fitness.
“Dylan (McGeouch) remains out and there’s still only a few others who have only just returned to training today.
“Aiden (McGeady) is still a big doubt for us as well. To get what we did out of him last week is testament to his want to play but it’s not ideal."
