Jack Ross knows Sunderland have very little room for error in their final three games following their Easter Monday draw on the road.
After a tight game at play-off contenders Peterborough United, Max Power struck what looked to be a decisive blow as he broke the deadlock in the 88th minute with a fine strike from distance.
However, minutes later Matt Godden had other ideas as his effort found its way past Jon McLaughlin to halt the Black Cats’ celebrations and earn a share of the spoils.
That’s left Sunderland needing to win their remaining three games in the hope that Barnsley slip up in one of their two fixtures to have a chance of reaching the automatic spots.
Speaking to safc.com, Ross shared his disappointment and admitted his players have no choice but to pick themselves up and go again against Portsmouth this weekend.
“It’s quiet and everyone is frustrated having put so much into the game,” he said.
“To get yourself ahead so late on and then concede in the manner we did is really frustrating and a hard one to take.
“We have put a lot into this season and we want to get our rewards for it.
“At this stage, we have two choices. We can either feel sorry for ourselves or we can regroup and go again.
“The lads will be ready to go on Saturday because we have got another big game. We came into this block of five games looking to win every single one.
“We knew if we did that then it would take us to where we wanted,” he continued.
“Unfortunately, we’ve dropped two on the road and now it’s been taken out of our hands. All we can do is win our remaining three and see where it takes us.”
