Team news: McGeady returns to training

Sunderland are sweating on the fitness of Dylan McGeouch ahead of Saturday’s clash with Burton Albion, but Aiden McGeady is back in training.

McGeady, who is yet to feature this campaign, picked up a calf injury ahead of pre-season, but after a spell in the treatment room, he’s back on the grass and nearing a return to action.

Meanwhile, last weekend’s man of the match, Denver Hume, and Jack Baldwin have shaken off knocks and returned to training ahead of the trip to the Pirelli Stadium.

But Ross admits McGeouch remains a doubt for the game.

“We had a couple of minor issues this week with Denver Hume and Jack Baldwin,” said Ross.

“They both trained today, but we still have a slight concern over Dylan McGeouch.”

He continued: “Apart from that, it’s just Duncan Watmore in terms of the longer-term ones.

“Aiden’s joined in with training this week and he’s been out for the best part of four months, so it’s taken a while.

“I feel as if him joining in accelerates his progress quicker than if he was working on his own, so it’s been quite tough, but he’s had no setbacks from that.

“We’re very much getting there in terms of having everyone available.”
