Team news: Gooch back to full fitness

Lynden Gooch will be in contention for Saturday’s trip to Shrewsbury Town, Jack Ross has revealed.

The American wideman who has missed the last three first-team fixtures, including the Checkatrade Trophy tie against Carlisle United, has spent the international period racing his way back to full fitness.

Having spent the last 15-20 minutes of the Lads’ Sky Bet League One match at Coventry City limping around, Gooch was forced with sit out as the Black Cats took four points off Peterborough United and Bradford City.

But following a positive week's worth of training ahead of the return of club football this weekend, Ross has revealed Gooch will be available once more.

The Sunderland boss also provided an update on Duncan Watmore as well as Glenn Loovens, Denver Hume, Charlie Wyke and Donald Love.

“The only one who is back available who wasn't is Lynden, Glenn Loovens will train again next week,” he said.

“Charlie and Denver still have a bit to go Donald Love is getting closer.

“He's getting ever closer, I get on well with him, we've had good chats.

“There's a duty of care as a club. He's so positive. I've never put time frames on it but it will be soon."
