Ready to go: Embleton looks to pre-season

Elliot Embleton is aiming to impress in pre-season after making his home debut on the final day of the campaign.

An England youth international, the midfielder enjoyed an impressive season with the club’s under-23s while also making his first-team bow in a 0-0 draw with Wolves in December.

Embleton regularly trained and travelled with the first team, but had to remain patient with the majority of his game-time coming with Elliott Dickman’s development side.

However, the hard work paid off and on the final day of the campaign he faced Wolves for a second time, and with pre-season just one month away, the 19-year-old is ready to impress.

“As with all the young players, it’s going to be an important pre-season for me,” he explained.

“I’ve played a lot of football in the past two years with the under-23s, the first team and with England, but after recharging I’ll be ready to go from day one.”

He continued: “Nothing beats playing at the Stadium of Light, but to do it with the first team was something special.

“I love playing there so to do it in front of the home fans, who got behind us throughout the game, was something else.

“It was a great experience and I’m ready for more.”
