Team news: Duo in contention, Coleman hopeful on O'Shea

Chris Coleman is hopeful to have captain John O’Shea available for Saturday’s match with Preston North End.

The defender was forced off in Sunderland’s Sky Bet Championship match with Aston Villa earlier this month but managed to complete 90 minutes at Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

However, the 36-year-old hasn’t trained all week and there is some doubt over whether or not he will feature against Alex Neil’s side.

Coleman is boosted however, over the return of Jake Clarke-Salter after his three-match suspension while Paddy McNair and Kazenga LuaLua could also play some part.

“John O’Shea hasn’t trained all week but will train today (Friday),” Coleman said.

“Marc Wilson has trained this last week, but he won’t be available this weekend – it is too early for him.

“Darron Gibson has had a couple of sessions but I think it will be at least another two weeks.

“And of course, you know Jonny (Williams) who will be out for another three weeks.”

He continued: “Kazenga LuaLua has trained twice this week and has looked sharp.

“Paddy McNair has had one proper session, so he could be in contention but let’s see how he gets through today (Friday) firstly.”
