Go again: Camp looks forward

Lee Camp refused to be downbeat following Sunderland’s narrow defeat at QPR, insisting the Black Cats are more than capable of firing themselves to safety.

After an even opening 45 minutes at Loftus Road, the home side were handed the initiative when Jason Steele’s red card saw Chris Coleman’s men reduced to ten men.

Camp impressed after replacing Joel Asoro, but despite a string of fine saves he was unable to keep the R’s out, as Ebere Eze’s effort clinched three points for Ian Holloway’s side.

But post-match the Sunderland goalkeeper was quick to look forward, explaining that if the defence does its job, the attacking players will fire the Lads to victories.

“We are trying to win games of football to get some positivity back,” said Camp.

“If you think about the negatives it won’t help and we won’t win games with our chins on our chest, so we have to stick our chests out, be brave and go again.”

He continued: “Up until the sending off we were very much in the game, but when you go to ten men, you have to dig in and get a point.

“It was disappointing to concede and not get a point out of it, but we won’t dwell on it because we have to pick ourselves up and go again next week.

"Essentially, it comes down to us being organised, being disciplined, doing the right things and sacrificing a few things along the way and the result will come.

“Hopefully we've stemmed the flow of goals and that gives the boys up front less pressure so, when they do score, the goals count."
