2018-19: Sunderland AFC retained list

Sunderland AFC today confirmed the club’s retained player list for the 2018-19 season.

The list shows those players currently under contract with Sunderland AFC, or who have contract offers pending.

The contracts of a number of players will expire on June 30, 2018 and they will be leaving the club. These players include Billy Jones, Marc Wilson and Kazenga LuaLua.

Young players Tom Beadling, Jean-Yves Poame, Josh Robson, James Talbot and Daniel Wright will also depart.

John O’Shea has left Sunderland AFC after seven years on Wearside. He joined the club from Manchester United in 2011 and went on to make 256 appearances, captaining the side for much of that time. He departs as the club’s leading appearance maker in the Premier League.

Speaking about John’s departure, manager Jack Ross said: “Whilst I didn’t work directly with John, everyone at the club speaks so highly of him, both as a player and a man. Coming from Manchester United, where he was schooled by Sir Alex, has clearly shaped him into the consummate professional, on and off the field. The positive influence he had on this football club will be long remembered.

“On behalf of everyone at Sunderland AFC, I wish John every success in whatever he chooses to do in the future and he will always remain a special part of the club”.
