Opener: Oviedo faces Serbia

Bryan Oviedo will begin his FIFA World Cup campaign on Sunday when Costa Rica take on Serbia (KO 1pm).

Playing at the tournament for the first time, the Sunderland defender is expected to start for Óscar Ramírez’s side at the Samara Arena.

Costa Rica, who will also face Brazil and Switzerland, lost just twice during qualifying, finishing second in the CONCACAF standings ahead of the likes of Panama, Honduras and the USA.

They famously reached the quarter-finals four years ago, although Oviedo missed out due to a long-term injury, after topping a group that included England, Italy and Uruguay.

However, the Central Americans have only ever gone beyond the group stage once before that, during Italia ‘90.

Serbia, meanwhile, finished top of their group in qualifying, finishing ahead of the Republic of Ireland, Wales and Austria.

And Los Ticos, and Oviedo, will have to be at their best, with Serbia boasting a wealth of talent from Branislav Ivanovic and Aleksandar Kolarov to Nemanja Matic and Duasn Tadic.

The game will kick-off at 1pm and you can watch all the action on ITV.
