Fifa World Cup: Khazri features as England secure opening win

Wahbi Khazri’s Tunisia were dealt a late sucker punch last night as England secured only their third ever victory in their opening World Cup match.

Tottenham Hotspur striker and Three Lions skipper Harry Kane led the way for Gareth Southgate’s side which included former Sunderland duo Jordan Henderson and Jordan Pickford.

Kane touched home a rebound from a corner after just 11 minutes when Ashley Young’s corner was met by the towering Harry Maguire.

The Leicester City defender saw his powered header clawed away by the Tunisia stopper, but only as far as the prolific Kane who pounced with real guile.

England’s lightening start didn’t last though, as Kyle Walker was at the centre of controversy as Tunisa were awarded a penalty on 35 minutes.

Ferjani Sassi made no mistake from 12 yards and fired his spot kick a fraction beyond Pickford who had guessed the right way.

Chances continued to rain in for the Three Lions, but they were made to wait until stoppage time at the end of the match.

Again, from a corner, Kane was well placed at the back stick to knock home and sink Tunisia, leaving England second in their group with two to play.
