First team: Walker confirmed as goalkeeping coach

Sunderland AFC are pleased to confirm Jimmy Walker as the club’s new first-team goalkeeping coach.

Walker joins from Sky Bet League Two club Lincoln City, becoming another part of Jack Ross’ backroom staff along with James Fowler and John Potter.

After making over 400 Football League appearances for Walsall, Walker moved to the Premier League with West Ham United before joining Tottenham Hotspur after five years at Upton Park.

Walker then joined Peterborough United as goalkeeper coach in 2013 before spells at Gillingham and then Lincoln City proceeded that.

Speaking about the deal, Jimmy said: “This place speaks for itself. I played at the Stadium of Light a few times and I absolutely loved it. If you can use it in the right way it can add 10% to your game at least. The type of character I am things like that raise me and hopefully the type of characters we bring in can be like that as well.

“It is an amazing place, I met Jack (Ross) and it was a great fit for me. I have had a fantastic time over the last few years, but I think it was the right time to move on.

“I have great memories from the last two years at Lincoln, but I look at Sunderland and this is just another level. We have to earn the right this season, it is an honest game, and everyone seem really positive about the season ahead.”
