'He is very vocal': Jones impressed by new recruit

Jake Clarke-Salter has made a big impression on his first full day at the Academy of Light, according to Billy Jones.

The 20-year-old completed his loan switch from Premier League champions Chelsea until the end of the season yesterday, and linked up with his team-mates for the first time this morning.

Providing another option for boss Chris Coleman to select from, Clarke-Salter will be in contention for Saturday’s mammoth trip to Cardiff City as the Black Cats revert their attentions back to their Sky Bet Championship campaign.

And speaking to safc.com, full-back Jones revealed how the young defender is settling into life on Wearside.

“He has looked really good to be honest,” he said.

“He looked really comfortable on the ball. He was very neat and tidy, he had a good pace and was technically good.

“He was very vocal out there which is exactly what you need from your ball playing centre-backs.”

He continued: “He looked really good today, so I am looking forward to playing with him and seeing what he brings to the team.”
