Team news: Gibson undergoes surgery

Darron Gibson has undergone surgery on a groin injury.

Chris Coleman confirmed the news at his pre-Cardiff City press conference, revealing the midfielder went under the knife after tests revealed the muscle had torn away from the bone.

Gibson is expected to out between eight to 12 weeks due to the injury, and it comes as a bitter blow after the Republic of Ireland midfielder became a key member of the starting XI following Coleman’s arrival.

“He’s had surgery so Darron will be out for eight to 12 weeks,” confirmed the Welshman.

“It’s a blow because the way we were going it was going well for Darron, but it’ll be between eight and 12 weeks I imagine.”

Meanwhile, Aiden McGeady is set to miss Saturday’s game in south Wales, but new signing Jake Clarke-Salter is expected to come into the starting XI.
