Team news: Robson and Maja start

Chris Coleman has made several changes for today’s Emirates FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough (KO 1pm).

The Welshman hands starts to Ethan Robson and Josh Maja, with Jason Steele also facing his former club as Robbin Ruiter drops to the bench.

Rated as doubts before the game, Paddy McNair and Aiden McGeady don’t make the squad as the Black Cats’ injury count increases to 11, with Lamine Kone, Adam Matthews, Darron Gibson, Lee Cattermole, Didier Ndong, Jack Rodwell, Jonny Williams, Duncan Watmore and Lynden Gooch also missing out.

Absences represent opportunity for the under-23s, though, and youthful bench includes potential debutants in Tom Beadling and Owen Gamble.

Elliot Embleton, Joel Asoro and James Vaughan are also amongst the substitutes.

Sunderland: Steele, Jones, O’Shea, Browning, Love, Oviedo, Wilson, Robson, Honeyman, McManaman, Maja.
Substitutes: Ruiter, Asoro, Embleton, Vaughan, Galloway, Beadling, Gamble.
