Back in action: Wyke returns to training

Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke has returned to full training.

The 25-year-old, who arrived from Bradford City in the summer, has endured a challenging start to his Sunderland career, but Jack Ross is tipping the forward to have a big impact when he returns.

Wyke is an accomplished forward at League One level and was a hot property in the summer, with the Lads fending off competition for his signature.

And his manager is looking forward to seeing him replicate the form that saw him score 41 goals in his last two seasons.

“Charlie is back in full training with us,” said Ross.

“He’s another couple of weeks away from games, but previously I take my responsibility in that we rushed him back too quickly.”

He continued: “It didn’t impact upon him being re-injured, it was his general fitness and his sharpness.

“But this time, we have been more measured with him and he feels a lot better because of that, so it means in a couple of week’s time when he is available, I think you’ll see a different player.

“I think he feels a lot better about himself as well.”
