Road trip: Power relishing away days

Sunderland face a tough week on the road, but Max Power can’t wait.

The summer signing bagged his first goal on Sunday as Jack Ross’ side put Scunthorpe United to the sword, with Josh Maja and Chris Maguire also on target.

Off the mark in red and white, Power was equally as pleased by the club’s first clean sheet of the campaign as a solid performance from back to front suffocated the Iron’s front line.

And speaking ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Gillingham, the midfielder urged his team-mates to build on a big week and maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

“It’s going to be a tough week,” said Power.

“There’s going to be lots of challenges on the road this season, as we saw at Luton last weekend, but we’re unbeaten in the league and that’s something we want to keep up .”

He continued: “We got three points on Saturday – and three goals – so we ticked a lot of boxes.

“It was a great feeling, and a bit of a collector’s item because I don’t score many headers, but I outlined when I signed that I wanted to score goals.

“It was nice to get the three points but is was massive to keep a clean sheet as well, as we hadn’t done that before Saturday.

“We would have liked to score more goals in the second half, but you can’t be too picky on days like that and we blew them away in the first-half.

“But there are many more challenges ahead, starting with Gillingham on Wednesday.”
