FIVE TO GO

Sunderland’s last three performances have seen the Black Cats impress, but the points reward hasn’t matched their efforts. With one win, one defeat and one draw, the gap to safety stands at seven points and back-to-back wins – and further victories beyond that – are top of the agenda, starting with three points on Tuesday evening. Elsewhere, Bolton Wanderers host Millwall, Burton Albion take on Hull City, Barnsley travel to Ipswich Town and Birmingham City visit Bristol City on a big night in the Sky Bet Championship.

CANARIES

Norwich are unbeaten in their last three league visits to the Stadium of Light, but they were undone in each of the last two meetings between the sides. Earlier in the season, Aiden McGeady was among the scorers as the Lads picked up a 3-1 win – their first of the season – but the Canaries have improved as the campaign has progressed, not least last time out as clinched an impressive 4-1 win over Aston Villa. Daniel Farke’s side are 12th in the table, without the worry of relegation or a chance at the top six, but a winning end to the campaign would set-up an intriguing 2018-19 season.

FITNESS BLOW

The biggest news from the manager’s pre-match press conference wasn’t good, as Paddy McNair was ruled out of the game. The Northern Ireland international has been back to his best after finally getting back to full fitness following a recovery from a knee injury, but he picked up a knock at Elland Road and won’t feature. Marc Wilson is also a doubt after picking up a knock in the 1-1 draw at Leeds, but Bryan Oviedo could return to the side. Billy Jones and Jonny Williams remain sidelined.  Meanwhile, Farke has said he is tempted to name an unchanged team.
