Interview: Love not surprised by McNair impact

Donald Love is far from surprised about the impact Paddy McNair is having in Sunderland’s first-team.

While the full-back is currently coming to terms with the news that his season has been cut short due to injury, Love has admitted he can’t help but be impressed by the impact the Northern Ireland International has had on Sunderland’s side.

Having scored two in as many games, including a speculative thunderbolt at Reading last Saturday, Love is delighted to see McNair, 22, put his injury woes behind him as the club continue their fight to stay in the Sky Bet Championship.

“It’s great to see Paddy playing games after all his injury problems and especially getting goals as well,” said Love.

“We know that’s what he can do and hopefully we can keep making good use of him.

“I’ve grown up with him swapping positions quite a bit. I’ve seen him play in midfield before but I’ve not seen him being such a powerhouse, getting from box to box. Hopefully we can see more of that.”

“We’re still fighting for the fans and they can see that,” Love continued. “I think that’s why we got a good reaction at the end.

“We’re still fighting to stay in this league and we still want to win every game. It’s for them at the end of the day.

“Burton is a must-win game for us, everyone knows that. We just want to go into that game and win.”
