View from the opposition: Koeman on Carabao Cup clash

Ronald Koeman believes victory over Sunderland will restore confidence within the Everton camp following a challenging start to the campaign.

The Toffees made a winning start to the Premier League season but they’ve yet to register a second victory, with the Merseysiders suffering heavy defeats against Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta and Manchester United following the international break.

Koeman’s side currently sit 18th in the top-flight table following three successive league defeats, but after facing the league’s elite sides in recent weeks the Dutchman insists there is no need to panic.

And speaking to Evertonfc.com, the Dutchman explained why Wednesday’s cup clash against the Black Cats provides the perfect chance to turn over a new leaf.

“Playing away at Manchester United is never easy but we showed we could compete with them and that needs to give everybody a lot of confidence,” said Koeman.

“We need to analyse the game but it is important to take the positives from Sunday and prepare ourselves for Wednesday.”

He continued: “We now play four times in a row at home in different competitions.

“We need a feeling for a win and that will give the best confidence to the players.”
