Hungry for more: Robson focussed on development

Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat at Everton is unlikely to be remembered  by many, but Ethan Robson will never forget our recent trip to Goodison Park.

The midfielder has been at the club since the age of eight, progressing through the ranks at the Academy of Light to become an established member of the under-23 set-up.

Like many of his team-mates, Robson also trains with Simon Grayson’s first-team on a regular basis and after catching the eye he realised a lifelong dream on Merseyside by making his Sunderland debut.

And speaking to safc.com after the game, the youngster admitted the result did little the dampen the feeling of taking to the field for his boyhood club.

“It’s a shame about the result but I’ve been at the club since I was eight years old so to make my debut was a dream come true.

“It was a great ground to do it at and it’s a proud moment for me and my family.”

He continued: “You can see that Everton are a Premier League side so we’ll move on from this quickly and look to Saturday.

“Personally, I just want to keep playing well for the under-23s and hopefully I’ll be a part of the gaffer’s plans.

“Training with the first-team day in day out and stepping up is exactly what you want.”
