Team news: Kone back for Brentford

Lamine Kone will be fit to face Brentford on Saturday after returning to training following illness.

The Ivory Coast international was one of three centre backs to miss last week’s draw against Queens Park Rangers, with Marc Wilson and Ty Browning also ruled out.

Kone, 26, returned to training on Monday and Browning will be assessed ahead of the game, with Jonny Williams rated as a doubt due to a tight hamstring.

But after seeing the likes of Paddy McNair, Duncan Watmore, Lewis Grabban and Josh Maja return to action in recent weeks, Simon Grayson is pleased to have options available.

“Last Monday [before the QPR game] we looked like we were going to be very strong, but then we lost three centre backs during the week.

“Lamine Kone was ill and Marc Wilson and Ty Browning picked up injuries during the build-up to the game, but at the top end of the pitch we were in good spirits with the players we have coming back.”

He continued: “Lewis Grabban got 45 minutes and Josh Maja got some game time the other night for the under-23s, but we still have a couple of knocks from the weekend.

“Lamine trained on Monday morning, he was ill overnight on Thursday so he couldn’t train on Friday and on Saturday he was still unable to play.

“Jonny Williams has a tight hamstring and Ty’s hamstring still, so we’ll assess everyone to see where we are.

“It’s nice to get the options available.”
