View from the opposition: Clement previews tough game

Paul Clement has urged the Swansea City fans to play their part when the Welsh side travel to the Stadium of Light.

Saturday’s game is the Black Cats’ final home outing of a disappointing season, but the Swans’ fate is hanging in the balance with Hull City, who lost to David Moyes’ side last weekend, also vying to avoid the drop.

It could be win or bust, then, for the Swans on Wearside and they know victory would take them a step closer to Premier League survival, with 3,000 supporters expected to make the trip north after the players covered the cost of every away ticket.

And although the parameters to success are in place, the Swansea boss has warned it won’t be easy.

"Sunderland stopped Hull getting valuable points and it also shows us they're still working hard," said Clement.

“It's their last game of the season at the Stadium of Light and maybe it's the last game for some players there.”

He continued: “They've got a good manager in David Moyes, who is competitive, and they're going to want to finish off strongly, so mentally we're prepared for a very tough game.

“The fans can’t score a goal and they can’t make a tackle, but they can hopefully get that little bit extra out of the players when we’re feeling tired of we’re in a part of the game when we’re under pressure.

“I always feel the players and fans have to work together; the atmosphere last weekend was phenomenal and everyone – the players, the media and the fans – was talking about it afterwards,

“We have 3,000 fans coming with us to Sunderland, so hopefully we will see the same thing again.”
