Team news from London: Defoe misses out, Lescott starts

David Moyes has named a makeshift side and youthful bench for the final game of the 2016-17 season, with 12 first-team players missing out at Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of the game the Sunderland managed revealed that 11 players would be unavailable for today’s game against Chelsea, with Jermain Defoe joining that list.

Fabio Borini starts up front as Adnan Januzaj comes into the side, with the Black Cats expected to play with five at the back after naming Billy Jones, Javier Manquillo, Bryan Oviedo, John O’Shea and Joleon Lescott in the starting XI.

In midfield, Lee Cattermole, Seb Larsson and Jack Rodwell feature a Donald Love, Elliot Embleton, Lynden Gooch, Joel Asoro and Josh Maja join Darron Gibson and Vito Mannone on the bench.
