Delighted: Bally praises Honeyman's attitude

Kevin Ball believes George Honeyman’s new contract is a testament to his attitude and enthusiasm to the game.

The 22-year-old agreed a new two-year deal at the Stadium of Light, after initially joining the Academy at the age of 10.

A hardworking midfielder, Honeyman first came under Bally’s radar aged 16 when he coached him as he fought for his scholarship.

Since then the Beekeeper’s continued efforts have seen him deservedly cement himself in first-team frame, an achievement which has left Ball delighted.

“Ever since I first started coaching him at 16 he always had aspirations to be in the first team,” he said.

“It might have taken him a while to get to where he wanted to be but the best thing about him is he has always maintained the drive and determination to want to improve.

“He always wants to get better and the recent win at Hull I thought he was the catalyst for that.

“His energy, his quality on the ball and the fact he was willing to take responsibility was great to see.

“Knowing how much George loves the club I think it is a real testament to his continued efforts throughout the season,” he continued.

“He always wants to learn, he wants to play and he wants to get better.

“Over the course of his years at the club he has built up a resilience and I’m delighted for him – he deserves it for the commitment he has shown us over the years.”
