Chelsea v Sunderland: Bally's ones to watch

Injured: Rueben Loftus-Cheek.

John Terry

Sunday’s game will mark the end of an era at Chelsea as John Terry departs the club following two decades at Stamford Bridge. The defender has made over 700 appearances in royal blue scoring 67 goals after making his debut in 1998, with 578 of those appearances coming as captain. He’s been a tremendous servant to Chelsea but he was also a fantastic defender in his prime, and he’ll be desperate to go out on a high this weekend. Terry has lifted many titles and many cups, but I suspect Sunday’s send-off will be equally memorable for the skipper.

N’Golo Kante

I think we were all in agreement when N’Golo Kante was named PFA Player of the Year following another stunning season in English football. Last campaign he was a revelation for Leicester City as they achieved the impossible and lifted the Premier League title, but he’s been just as important for Chelsea this time around and I’ve been really impressed by the way he’s been completely unfazed by the pressure of playing under enormous expectation. He always has a smile of his face when he plays and his work rated is phenomenal, so he’s a great role model to young players – and old ones at that – who should always remember to enjoy playing the game.

Marcos Alonso

Another player who always plays with a smile is Marcos Alonso and it’s been fantastic to see a former Black Cat go right to the very top this season. Antonio Conte deserves a lot of credit for the style of play Chelsea have adopted this season, but Alonso has been a key factor behind that success. There were many raised eyebrows when the fee was revealed but he’s been worth every penny, defending well while also racking up assists and goals at the other end. We’ll all remember his role in the great escape and in our road to Wembley, but he’s taken his game to a new level since leaving the Stadium of Light.

Gary Cahill

Before club captain Terry bows out, stand-in skipper for much of the season Gary Cahill will lift the Premier League trophy with his outgoing team-mate. And it’ll mark the culmination of a very good career for Cahill. Yes, the defender has already won the PL, the UEFA Champions League and a host of other honours, but getting your hands on the trophy and actually lifting it is a special feeling. Only Tottenham and Manchester United have conceded less goals than the Blues but Cahill has also chipped in at the other end, with no top-flight defender bettering his tally of eight domestic goals ths campaign.
