On this day in 2004 Stephen Elliott signed for Sunderland from Manchester City.
The Republic of Ireland international would go on to make over 80 appearances on Wearside, winning two Championship titles in the process.
Elliott also notched 23 goals during a three-year spell in the north east, with his very first coming against Crewe Alexandra.
