Memories and smiles that will last forever: Mannone pays tribute to Bradley

Vito Mannone paid tribute to Bradley Lowery on Tuesday evening.

An emotionally-charged evening at Gigg Lane saw football take the backseat as Sunderland fans, players and staff came together to celebrate and remember a six-year-old boy who captured the hearts of everyone at the club, and beyond.

Bury fans and staff were also magnificent as a rousing pre-match applause preceded endless chants of ‘there’s only one Bradley Lowery', as images of the cherished youngster were shown on the big screen throughout the contest.

Speaking to safc.com, Mannone expressed his sadness before sending his thoughts to the Lowery family and explaining why someone so small gave us all so much.

“It’s been a very tough day. Unfortunately, I got the news we never wanted to get when I got to the hotel and I had no words.

“I just sat thinking about him and tried to write a message. I have prayed for him and will pray for him every day – I’m so sorry to the family, I met them and I know how much they cared about Brad.”

He continued: “We’ve had a relationship with a kid who gave us more than many adults.

“I hope the family can sit tight and remember all of the good memories because he was brilliant and I’m very honoured that I met him.

“He gave me special moments and smiles that will live with me forever.”
