Sunday Supplement: Grayson on Ruiter, Lens and injuries

We caught up with Simon Grayson after yesterday’s game to talk Bradford City, Robbin Ruiter, Jeremain Lens and the latest from the treatment room.

You can watch the full interview by clicking here, but some of the most notable snippets are available below…

GRAYSON ON RUITER

SG: “He came into the team that he doesn’t really know the players too much, but he showed a lot of good characteristics. He was calm in possession, quite composed as well and made saves at crucial stages, as you would like a goalkeeper to do, so he hasn’t done himself any harm. It’s very difficult to make a judgement on a player after two training sessions and one game. We’ll have a look at the situation and speak to the relevant people to see if he can stay for another couple of days because we like what we’ve seen so far.”

GRAYSON ON LENS

SG: “There’s no question about his talent because he wouldn’t be at this football club and have had the career that he’s had so far, but what a lot of the players need to come to terms with is the work ethic that you need to play for Sunderland, and ultimately in the Championship. I’m pleased with what he’s done and I’m planning to have all of these lads for the first game for the season. Somewhere down the line things might change – after the season starts or before – but while they’re here they will all have the opportunity to do the best they can.”

GRAYSON ON INJURIES

SG: “Jack Rodwell had a dead leg from the St Johnstone game so we’ll have to see where he is, but Brendan Galloway should be back training Monday. Aiden McGeady picked up a slight injury in the early part of the week, but I expect him to be back on the training pitch on Monday, and be ready for the game on Wednesday.”
