Manager's view: McGeady could feature at Pools

Aiden McGeady will bring hunger, desire and pace to Sunderland – and he could make his debut against Hartlepool United on Tuesday evening according to Simon Grayson.

The summer signing is yet to feature after joining from Everton, but after working on his fitness at the Academy of Light while his team-mates faced St Johnstone, he could be in line to appear at Victoria Park.

Vaughan is also likely feature after making his red and white bow in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat, and Simon Grayson was impressed by what he saw from the Black Cats new frontman.

"What James brings to the club is what you saw on Saturday and that’s what Sunderland fans want to see.

“There were three rounds of applause in the opening 15 minutes and that wasn’t through someone making a fantastic run, it was through James winning two headers and also chasing down a lost cause.”

He continued: “I want the whole team to have the ethic that when we have the ball we work hard and we when we don’t have it we work even harder.

“Aiden’s a little bit behind the schedule so he stayed down [when we played St Johnstone] and did a double session, as well as training the day of the game.

“He’s been training at Everton and we’ll wait on the results of how fit he is in terms of whether we use him on Tuesday, but it shows when you have a little bit of bit hunger, desire and pace in the side you can become a different team.”
