How's stat?: Opta guide to Saturday's game

Sunderland will be aiming to end their Hawthorns hoodoo when they face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday (KO 3pm).

The Black Cats’ have lost on six of their last seven visits (D1 L7) and the Baggies are unbeaten in their last five PL meetings with the Lads, though four of them have ended level.

Sunderland’s last Premier League win at the Black Country venue came in January 2006, with Anthony le Tallec’s controversial strike sealing a narrow 1-0 win.

But the Black Cats have enjoyed more recent success at the Hawthorns, albeit in the Championship, with Dwight Yorke and Stern John striking in a 2-1 win in March 2007.

Saido Berahino has often been a thorn in Sunderland’s side and the England international has scored the Baggies’ last three goals against the Lads.

However, Berahino’s future at the Hawthorns remains unclear, and the 23-year-old is unlikely to feature having last played for Tony Pulis’ side in September.

Experience is often decisive in the PL and only Watford (29y 326d) have named an older starting line-up on average than West Brom (29y 265d).

And John O’Shea’s knowledge of the game will be vital, with the Baggies scoring a league-high 11 headed goals this season.

Sunderland have yet to score one.

Scoring, though, has not been a problem for the Black Cats thanks to the stunning form of Jermain Defoe.

Only Sergio Aguero (28) and Harry Kane (27) have scored more Premier League goals than the striker (23) since the start of 2016.

Meanwhile, David Moyes will be the ninth different Sunderland manager to take charge of a Premier League game at the Hawthorns.

And there was late drama on the Scot’s last trip to West Brom, with Daley Blind securing a 2-2 draw in the 87th minute as his Manchester United side came from behind on two occasions.
