Team news: Oviedo & McNair doubtful

Chris Coleman is expecting to have pretty much the same squad of players at his disposal this weekend against Birmingham City.

The Welshman believes Saturday’s match will come too soon for Costa Rican full-back Bryan Oviedo and midfielder Paddy McNair, who have been sidelined since the start of the month.

Didier Ndong provided a welcome boost last Saturday as he returned to action against Fulham, and the Black Cats boss has revealed the Gabon international has trained well this week as attentions switch to Birmingham City.

Speaking to safc.com, Coleman mulled over his options for Saturday's home match against Birmingham while providing update on the fitness of defender Lamine Kone.

“I think this weekend will be a bit early for Bryan Oviedo and we don’t think Paddy McNair will be available either,” he said,

“Didier Ndong got 15 or 20 minutes at the weekend and has trained well today so that is quite positive.

“Lamine Kone is out for another four weeks at least.

“Jack Rodwell is still working hard in training but not fit so we have pretty much got what we have got going into a big match this weekend.”
