Team news: Cattermole out for up to four weeks

Lee Cattermole has been ruled out for up to a month while Bryan Oviedo will return to the matchday squad this weekend, Chris Coleman has revealed.

The Stockton-born midfielder missed last Saturday’s victory over Fulham through suspension, however, Coleman has admitted he has suffered an injury which is likely to keep him sidelined until the new year.

Oviedo, meanwhile, looks set to return to the matchday squad against Birmingham City on Saturday after it had been feared the Costa Rican full-back may miss Saturday’s match along with Paddy McNair.

Speaking at his Birmingham City press conference this afternoon, Coleman provided a boost over the fitness of Oviedo while sharing news that Cattermole will miss the festive set of fixtures through injury in the same breath.

“Bryan Oviedo is back in the squad, which is a plus, but Lee Cattermole will be out for a month,” he said.

“He’s had his thigh scanned, and it’s shown up that there’s a strain and a tear there so he’s going to be out for a month. That’s obviously a big blow for us.

“Paddy McNair is not going to be ready for tomorrow, but he’ll hopefully be ready for the Barnsley game.”
