Winners and Losers: Sky Bet Championship review

The Sky Bet Championship season is well underway and there’s plenty to digest following matchday four.

It was an afternoon to forget at the Stadium of Light as Simon Grayson’s side tasted defeat for the first time this season, but what else happened on an action-packed day?

Read on to find out…

PERFECT START CONTINUES

Cardiff City and Ipswich Town continued their 100% records with wins on Saturday, with the Bluebirds overcoming promotion-tipped Wolves as the Tractor Boys defeated Brentford.

In-form Nathaniel Mendez-Laing struck the winner for Neil Warnock’s side and Martyn Waghorn’s fourth goal of the season condemned Brentford to a third defeat in four games, to ensure the Bees remain bottom of the table.

STILL WITHOUT A WIN

Millwall and Bolton Wanderers are the other sides without a league win so far, but the former are proving tough to beat with a 0-0 draw at Bristol City seeing them pick up their second point.

Meanwhile, Britt Assombalonga’s return to the City Ground didn’t go to plan as Nottingham Forest clinched a surprise win over Middlesbrough.

Forest deservedly clinched a third win from four as Barrie McKay and former Black Cat Daryl Murphy found the net, as Mark Warburton’s side moved up to fourth.

THE BEST OF THE REST

Queens Park Rangers, Preston North End and Derby County have also made bright starts to the season picking up seven points, with Leeds United on eight after maintaining their unbeaten start at the Stadium of Light.

Last season’s Sky Bet League One champions Sheffield United have also impressed and captain Billy Sharp was on target against Barnsley to clinch a second win for Chris Wilder’s side.
