Simon Grayson spoke to the media earlier today ahead of Sunderland's trip to Norwich City.

The Black Cats boss shared his thoughts on the Carrow Road clash, spoke about the Black Cats' movement in transfer market and much more.

Here are the talking points...

HONEYMAN THE LIGHT

SG: “I think they all sort of thought if I was true to my word then they will be given an opportunity and that has certainly been the case. When they get that opportunity they have to grasp it and stay in the team. George Honeyman has shown great quality. You have seen Asoro and Gooch come on last night. They will all get chances over the course of the season. If they get a chance they need to take it and I think George is a shining light for us.”

RETURN TO LEAGUE DUTY

SG: “(Promotion) is the first port of goal. That was the aim when I came to this club. We have got to build small bridges as we go along and we have got to keep progressing in a manner that is fit for this football club. Ultimately, (promotion) has got to be the aim of it all. The money and the players that are moving around and coming to the Premiership is where everyone wants to be. We are where we are and hopefully sometime soon we will be back up there.”

A DIFFERENT ROUTE FOR NORWICH

SG: “In the summer they decided to go a different way. You saw that when they brought in their German coach. He was at Borussia Dortmund and I think they would like to create a similar situation to the one Huddersfield created last summer. From our perspective, we are a little unsure about how they are going to play, we have had them watched but it is a football club which has ex Premiership players and they will be doing their upmost to get back up there.”

STRIKING ISSUE

SG: “Everyone would like these signings (the ones we have been linked too) to have happen. With Duncan Watmore coming back it will be like a new signing for us. He is held in high regard at this football club. Going forward it is an area we still need to strengthen and it is where it really matters.”
