Lynden Gooch was left speechless following Sunderland’s 2-1 win at Carlisle, as the American’s dreams came true.
The youngster has been dreaming of scoring for the Black Cats for over a decade and, just in the nick of time, it became a reality as he struck a late winner to send Simon Grayson’s side into the third round.
And speaking post-match, Gooch admitted it was a night he’ll never forget.
“I’ve dreamt about this moment since I was a ten-year-old boy when I came over here on trial, so to finally get that goal was amazing.
“No one [wanted extra-time] especially because of the amount of games we have, so it was a relief for everyone and moment to remember.”
He continued: “It was perfect [to get an assist in the first half as well].
“When the gaffer told me I was playing my main focus was to impress him so I can break into the team, and hopefully I’ve done that.
“We want to get as many wins as we can get to take us to where we want to be.”
