Sunderland will face Carlisle United in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
The Black Cats will meet the League Two side at Brunton Park during the week commencing August 21.
Sunderland last played the Cumbrians in 2014, a 3-0 FA Cup win at the Stadium of Light. The two clubs have met each other 19 times, with Sunderland coming out on top 9 times and honours even on six occasions.
A confirmed date and ticketing arrangements will be announced in due course.
