View from the opposition: Howe expecting tough game

AFC Bournemouth might be sitting pretty and within touching distance of the top half, but Eddie Howe is refusing to rest on his laurels and insists there is work to do ahead of their trip to the Stadium of Light.

The Cherries boss hailed his players ahead Saturday’s clash against Sunderland, and victory on Wearside would see them move past the coveted 40-point barrier.

Meanwhile, the Black Cats need to overcome their south-coast counterparts to keep within touching distance of Middlesbrough, Swansea City and Hull City.

And speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Bournemouth manager insisted it will be a tough game.

"Any away game in the Premier League is difficult,” said Howe.

“While there's hope for Sunderland they'll keep going, it will be tough."

He continued: “I won't accept we're safe until it's mathematically done, but we'd love to get over the 40-point barrier this weekend.

“We've been slightly more inconsistent than we'd have liked, but I see progression in the team and we're going the right way.

“I'm proud of how the players have adapted to the Premier League."
