David Moyes praised Wahbi Khazri following his inspired display against West Ham United today.
The Tunisia international shone throughout and netted a sensational leveller to cancel out Andre Ayew’s opener direct from a corner with 25 minutes played.
Khazri continued to lead the Black Cats’ charge up to half-time before James Collins silenced the Stadium of Light with a header on 47 minutes.
Sunderland fought back, though, and earned an equaliser in the 89th minute when Fabio Borini slammed home as the Hammers failed to clear their lines. Sam Byram was then later sent off for a second bookable offence.
Speaking to safc.com post-match, Moyes was left delighted with his side’s efforts, paying particular homage to Khazri’s contribution.
“I thought the boys played well today and from the first minute right to the last they did everything they possibly could to get a result.
“Their first goal was disappointing because we started the game well, we were on the front foot but within five or six minutes we found ourselves a goal down.
“Credit to the players for coming back and sticking at it.
“We played well in the first-half and we deservedly went in at half-time drawing.
“Wahbi is capable of that (kind of goal) from set-pieces.
“The wind was swirling around and that was always going to make it either better or worse depending on how our delivers were.
“I’m pleased and I thought Wahbi played well today. He contributed to a team performance today.
“He contributed to an all-round good team performance, we needed that and I’m glad to see him,” he continued.
“We worked hard and it looked like we needed something to go for us right at the end. We pushed, we tried hard but ultimately we just couldn’t get a win.
“I don’t think Billy Jones' injury is as bad (as first thought). He hit the ground bad but I just think he has concussed himself and hopefully it won’t be as bad as we first feared.”
