Manager's preview: Moyes on Man Utd

David Moyes is looking for a boost when Sunderland entertain Manchester United on Sunday (KO 1.30pm).

The Black Cats boss and his players have been watching re-runs of the club’s recent survival battles, and he hopes the Lads can one again upset the odds and stun their relegation-threatened counterparts.

With eight games to play the gap to safety stands at ten points, but despite winning one of their last 13 Premier League games, Moyes is backing his players who are ‘giving everything they’ve got’.

And speaking to safc.com, the Sunderland boss urged his side to find a way – any way – of winning against the Red Devils, in order to spark the latest great escape.

“I think the players are giving everything they’ve got, I really do,” said Moyes.

“You’re right we’ve only got one win in our last 13, and we’re very much aware of that and we don’t enjoy hearing it, but we won’t hide away from it.”

He continued: “It’s always a big game [against Manchester United] and it gives you a chance to show what you can do while being watched by millions.

“We have to find a way of winning and we hope to do that; some of the positions the club have been in and got out of are incredible and I’ve quite enjoyed watching the goals and the way the games went.

“That’s the thing about football and the Premier League – you’re never quite sure – it keeps everyone on their toes and keeps everyone watching because there’s an unpredictability about it.

“Anything can happen to turn football and you just never know what it might be, it can make a big difference if we can get that lift going into the last half dozen games.”
