Injury update: Moyes waits on Watmore verdict

Sunderland forward Duncan Watmore has suffered a setback on his road to recovery.

The roadrunner was ruled out for the season after suffering a knee injury against Leicester City in December, with the England under-21 international damaging is anterior cruciate ligament.

It came as a bitter blow to the Black Cats’ in their battle for survival, but Watmore dusted himself down and has since returned to light training.

However, the 23-year-old has encountered some discomfort upon his return, and David Moyes revealed he will see a specialist this week to decide if he needs further surgery.

“Duncan Watmore might be needing a little bit of work done on his knee,” confirmed the Sunderland boss.

“Obviously, he's not back, but he might be needing a little bit more surgery on his knee.”

He added: “He's been feeling it - he's been running a little bit - so he'll see the surgeon this week.”
