How's stat?: Opta guide to Saturday's game

Sunderland entertain West Ham United on Saturday (KO 3pm) when they will be hoping to return to winning ways, but first they’ll have to banish their goalscoring blues.

The Black Cats have now gone seven successive games and 675 minutes without scoring, but West Ham haven’t done the double over them since the 2008-09 campaign.

And the Hammers have already lost 16 Premier League games this season, double the amount they did in the whole of last season.

Slavan Bilic will also be without his main creative force – Dimitri Payet – with the Frenchman creating more chances (74) than any other West Ham player this season, despite moving to Marseille in January.

And the Hammers have been slack at the back this season, conceding more goals (56) than the Black Cats (57) during the currently campaign.

Only Swansea City (67), Hull City (64) and Bournemouth (59) have conceded more.

Jermain Defoe has scored six goals in 15 appearances against the club he forged his name with, but he’s yet to score against them in three appearances in red and white.

The last meeting between the two sides saw West Ham strike late on at the London Stadium, as Winston Reid netted a 94th-minute winner to ensure heartbreak for the Black Cats.
