Pickford: Cup win can build momentum

Jordan Pickford believes that victory in the EFL Cup can be the catalyst to kick-start Sunderland’s 2016-17 season.

Following a narrow defeat at White Hart Lane, the Black Cats return to the capital on Wednesday evening hoping for a change of fortunes when they take on Queens Park Rangers.

And the 22-year-old is hoping to build confidence and momentum ahead of a Stadium of Light double-header in the Premier League.

“If we can pick up a result at Queens Park Rangers we can build some momentum going into Palace on the weekend.

“We have two home games coming up in the Premier League and we want two wins.”

He continued: “Everyone is together – there are a few new faces with injured players coming back – and we have a great squad with a great mentality.

“Now we need to build on it and get some wins.”
