Team news: Duo back in training

Lamine Kone and Patrick van Aanholt are back in training ahead of Sunderland’s trip to West Ham United, David Moyes has revealed.

The Ivorian centre back missed last weekend’s trip to Stoke City’s Bet365 Stadium, with van Anholt limping out of the 2-0 defeat during the opening 45 minutes.

Long-term absentees Vito Mannone and Seb Larsson are also making ‘really good progress’ according to the Black Cats boss, with a host of Sunderland’s other injury concerns on the road to recovery.

“Lamine Kone and Patrick van Aanholt have been training,” said Moyes. “More importantly the likes of Seb Larsson are making really good progress and Vito Mannone is out doing some handling work.

“Some of the long-termers are coming back; I don’t think Adnan will be as long and Jason Denayer shouldn’t be too bad.”

He added: “There are signs that they are all on their way back and it might not be too long until we get some back in the squad.

“Cattermole is still injured but making progress, as is Kirchhoff – he pulled his hamstring and we thought it would be quite a serious one, 8-12 weeks – and we think it will be shorter than that.

“The only one which isn’t on the horizon is probably Fabio Borini.

“I think it’ll be a lot longer than that [weeks].”
