Didier Ndong reserved special praise for his team-mates and the club’s supporters following his first few months at the club.

The Gabon international signed for Sunderland on deadline day penning a five-year deal from French side Lorient.

And following his arrival he's leant on the other French-speaking players within the squad.

Speaking to safc.com, Ndong also praised the welcoming atmosphere at the Academy of Light.

“I’m adapting really well and the team has welcomed me with open arms,” said Ndong. “At the moment its challenging but everything is going well personally.

“Each day they [the French-speaking players] are really helpful in training; it facilitates what we’re trying to do and although we’re on a tricky start we will get there if we work hard.”

He added: “It’s really great to play in front of the fans and it’s great to see that they’re supporting us at every match because they encourage us and cheer us on, even when its difficult

“I’m really proud to be wearing the shirt and I want to give it my all.”
