Interview: Jones on Stoke City

Billy Jones has urged Sunderland to ‘dust themselves down’ and move forward following defeat at Stoke City on Saturday.

Making his first Premier League appearance of the season, Jones was powerless to prevent the Black Cats from falling to a 2-0 defeat as Joe Allen’s double sealed three points for the Potters.

The result leaves Sunderland as the only side without a top-flight win during the current campaign, but victory over West Ham United on Saturday could see them hand themselves a significant boost.

And speaking to safc.com, the defender immediately switched his focus to the club’s inaugural trip to the London Stadium.

“It was a tough game and a disappointing result,” said Jones post-match at the Bet365 Stadium.

“We started well but they made us pay when we made mistakes and at this level you can’t afford to give teams opportunities because they will take them.”

He continued: “On a personal note it’s good to be fit again, but it’s obviously not the result we were looking for following the international break.

“We need to dust ourselves down and keep working hard on the training pitch, and then we need to put everything into our performance next weekend against West Ham United.

“The fans gave us everything today and they were immense, so hopefully we can send them home happy next weekend and kick on from there.”
