View from the opposition: Bilic previews Sunderland clash

David Moyes’ experience will be key to Sunderland’s success according to West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Bilic admitted the Hammers must reverse their mixed fortunes at the London Stadium, starting on Saturday when the Black Cats head to the capital.

A first Premier League win would see Sunderland move within two points of the East London club.

And while Bilic believes it won’t be long until Moyes guides the Lads up the table, he urged his side to replicate last weekend’s performance which yielded a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

"You can move away from the bottom with a few wins,” said the Hammers boss. “David Moyes is a great manager and he has the experience.

“We will try to win and it would be good to have a couple of wins. We are positive and if we play like we did last week we have a chance.”

He added: “We have one win from four home games in the Premier League and opponents are hoping to capitalise on that in a new stadium.

“It is our home and we need to change that.”

Bilic also provided the latest team news revealing that Andre Ayew is back in training, but, like Andy Carroll, he won't feature in Saturday’s game.

“It is a big boost to have Ayew Andre back in training. He looks good and the medical team have done a great job so we are all delighted.

“He probably needs a little more time before he can be ready for games, so he will probably not be in the squad for the game on Saturday.”

He continued: “Andy picked up the injury in Romania and I didn't notice he got injured. Originally we thought it would be four to six weeks.

“Now it is longer than that and it is slower than we expected. He is progressing but it is not the speed we wanted.

“The rest of the players look good. Only Aaron Cresswell will be missing.”
