Jermain Defoe has been voted as the safc.com Player of the Season.
The 33-year-old was instrumental during the 2015-16 campaign netting an incredible 18 goals, 15 of which came in the Premier League as the striker fired Sam Allardyce’s side to safety.
Defoe, who picked up 62% of the vote, signed a one-year contract extension with Sunderland last week, extending his stay on Wearside until the summer of 2019.
January recruit Jan Kirchhoff placed second with 10% after making a big impression following his move from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, with fellow mid-season recruit Lamine Kone finishing third with 8%.
A consistent performer throughout the season, Yann M’Vila placed fourth with Patrick van Aanholt completing the top five.
