Manager's preview: Moyes targets three points

David Moyes is hoping to add to Leicester City’s away-day blues when the champions travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday (KO 3pm).

The Foxes have yet to pick up a Premier League win on the road this season despite conquering their UEFA Champions League opponents to seal a spot in the knockout stages.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Moyes hailed Leicester’s meteoric rise and hailed their form on the European stage, as well as their strength in depth.

But more importantly the Scotsman declared the need for more wins on Wearside over the festive period, starting with three points this weekend.

“It’s a great story for football and it’s a story which people will talk about for many years to come,” said Moyes when reflecting on the last 12 months at the King Power Stadium. “I think you’ve also got to remember the quality of players Leicester City have because they’ve built up a really strong team.

“They’ve been brilliant in the Champions League and I think that’s maybe been what they’ve wanted to concentrate on, and good on them.”

He continued: “They’ve qualified for the last 16 and now they’ve got that in the bag maybe they will now look more at their Premier League form, but I hope they don’t do that this weekend and hopefully we can pick up three points.

“I believe we’ve deservedly picked up some good results and it’s now about what we can do next because they’re gone, so we need to quickly think about more points and win the next game, then after that do it again.

“We have to pick up some wins in that period [before January] and if we do that then we can go into the new year with good spirit and look at what we need to do to make sure we’re a Premier League team next year.”
