How's stat?: Swansea City v SAFC

Sunderland have often struggled against Swansea City in the Premier League, but they broke their South-Wales hoodoo last season with a Jermain Defoe-inspired win.

January’s victory is Sunderland’s only win in their last eight PL games against the Swans, but manager David Moyes has never tasted defeat against the Welsh side (W2 D5).

Like his manager, Defoe loves to face Swansea and he’s scored five times in three Premier League games against them, including a hat-trick in the last meeting between the sides.

And the striker also enjoys the festive period, netting 24 Premier League goals in the month of December – only Wayne Rooney (31), Robbie Fowler (33) and Alan Shearer (39) have more.

Swansea, meanwhile, have endured their worst start to a Premier League season after 14 matches picking up nine points – five fewer than this time last season.

Bob Bradley’s side have allowed their opponents a league-high 14 attempts from fast breaks, and since the American took charge on 3 October they have conceded the most goals in the Premier League.

The Black Cats will be without Duncan Watmore, but with Anichebe and Defoe, who has scored 14 goals in his last 22 appearances away from home, set to start, the Swans will be hoping for a swift change in fortunes.
