Top 10: Get to know Javier Manquillo

Get to know Sunderland's sixth summer signing by taking a look at Javier Manquillo's fact file...

-   Born May 5, 1994, Manquillo was raised in the Spanish town of Chinchon which is approximately 31 miles from Madrid.

-   The full-back began his career playing for Atlético Madrid B in 2011/12 where he made 13 appearances.

-   Manquillo made his competitive debut in December 2011, at the age of 17, for Los Rojiblancos in a 2-1 away defeat by Albacete in the Copa del Rey.

-   Twelve months later the full-back made his senior bow in La Liga as he came off the bench in a 6-0 rout of Deportivo La Coruna.

-   The defender was part of the Spain under-19s squad that triumphed in the UEFA European U19 Championship’s in Estonia.

-   Despite a collision with Cristiano Ronaldo which resulted in his 2013-14 season being cut short, Manquillo’s contributions had earned him a winner’s medal as Atlético clinched their first La Liga title since 1996.

-   Manquillo also claimed a Copa del Rey winners medal earlier that year as Atlético sealed a memorable double.

-   The 22-year-old arrives on Wearside having experienced playing in Europa League and Champions League.

-   After a spell at Liverpool in the 2014-15 Premier League campaign, a move to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille followed last term as he made 31 appearances.

-   Manquillo has become the seventh Spanish player to join the Black Cats in their entire history, following in the footsteps of Carlos Cuellar, Marcos Alonso and Jordi Gomez.
